The IOT, Internet of Things which include connect raw machines to the internet such as a smart home with all other appliances connect to each other sharing data among themselves and controlling them remotely, which include sensors which provides data/raw data and can further used to provide insights from that very same data.

IOT is considered as an ecosystem of connected physical objects that are accessible through the internet. let’s think of something which does not include actual sensors here by sensors I mean heat sensors, pressure sensors etc, but a synthetic sensor which is the next level of IOT and might surely change our understanding of IOT over time. Isn’t it will be amazing? Surprised?

As the sensors are costly and easily break down easily and cost varies as you need more accuracy with the sensors. Synthetic Sensors might soon offer a better alternative.

Researchers have been long understanding the concept of sensing, they have come up with something new. They have gone a step beyond by combining several sensing functions in one single board or in one single device. It means with a single unit installed in we can get all the data required to do the automation.

You can actually sense all things from one point.Synthetic Sensors is a single device that plugs into any electrical outlet to connect everything in a room i.e. can be connected with the USB or any other power supply needed to function the board.

It tracks water streams, coffee grinder still running, blender left on, stove burner and many things. For privacy reasons, researchers excluded the use of a camera. By training the Synthetic Sensors, the research team has created a wide variety of objects and actions such as detection of equipments running and reporting simultaneously on the system.

Synthetic Sensors aren’t just limited to detecting one activity or device at a time. It can also detect multiple events simultaneously. Raw sensor data has never been sent to cloud.

Synthetic sensors consists of N order synthetic sensors,

1. First Order synthetic sensors

It allows us to distinguish which sensor is activated like opening a fridge, garbage disposal system, or the events f burner it does allow us to capture the necessary movements going between or through sensor hence narrowing down the extra disturbance. It creates the first layer or the foundation Layer for our system.

2. Second Order synthetic sensors

it enables us to know let say the count of paper napkins used that is very minute detail and sending response to the system if the supply is low so that it can be refilled again. We have never seen these sort of aggregation between sensors but its allowing to do things we only used to thought of. Another use would be measuring amount of water flowing and duration of time and reporting in the same manner.

But yet we moved to second order only and can be move to nth order of synthetic sensor to achieve better sensing with Accuracy.
